Case Studies
CT Society of Genealogists (www.csginc.org)
With more than 4,000 members worldwide, the Connecticut Society
of Genealogists (CSG) is among the largest
societies devoted exclusively to U.S. genealogy. As
part of a major website redesign effort, CSG wanted to create
a dynamic web-based historical database that could be maintained
and updated by its 4,000+ members. In addition, to reduce future
IT costs, CSG wanted this database to be flexible enough to address
future data enhancements - i.e.: new data elements, data categories,
etc - without the need for major IT development expenditures.
Website security was another major area of concern for CSG. Given
the historical signficance and value of the data, CSG required
several levels of security based on varying user types.
To meet this challenge, KnowledgePhase created
a secure robust database design and custom web application engine
that provided the desired flexibility for future data enhancements.
CSG members now have the ability to add historical items to the
database via the CSG website. Newly added items are
added to an approval queue which CSG administrators
can review online before making the items a permanent record
in the database. This
approval queue exists in a secure area of the website that is
only available to CSG board members and system administrators.
In conclusion, this database provides CSG with the ability to
capture data in a scalable delegated manner and has positioned
them to become one of the largest historical repositories available
on the web.
8towns.com (www.8towns.com)
8towns.com is a local business directory portal focused on providing
quick access to businesses in the following Connecticut towns:
Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfiled, Trumbull, Milford, Monroe, Shelton,
and Stratford. 8towns required a dynamic database structure to
support relationships between organizations and business categories
and sub-categories. In addition, a straightforward yet comprehensive
user registration process was implemented to encourage users to register and
add organizations to the database.
KnowledgePhase developed a solid database foundation that allows
users to create a user account and add as many organizations
to the database as they see fit. More importantly, as the data
volume has grown with the addition of thousands of organizations,
a powerful search tool was created that allows a user to quickly
locate organizations in a particular town. In addition, a comprehensive
and secure administration area was built to provide 8towns administrators
with the ability to manage users, organizations, etc.
Tashua Knolls Golf Course (www.tashuaknolls.com)
Tashua Knolls is a 27-hole golf course stretching 6,540 yards
from the championship tees. Built in 1976 by golf architect
Al Zikorus, the course is situated on picturesque farmland originally
inhabited by the Tamtashua Indians and later the Mallet family
of Trumbull. Given that portions of Tashua Knolls website change
on a frequent basis, the ability to change this content without
additional programming was required.
To achieve this, KnowledgePhase custom content solutions were
implemented providing the Tashua Website Administrator
the ability to change web page content and manage events through
a secure back-end interface.
Peruvian Classics (www.peruvianclassics.org)
Peruvian Classics is a non-profit organization created to assist
Sripture Union of Peru in its ministry of helping children in
need. In order to tais funds and support native artisans, Peruvian
Classics imports quality Peruvian crafts and applies a suggested
donation amount to each product.
KnowledgePhase developed a "donation portal" that allows web
visitors to review and order these hand made Peruvian products
based on the suggested donation amount. In addition, a complete
inventory tracking and shipping back-end was developed to manage
the entire donation-to-order process.
